Gareth Patterson --environmentalist, writer, speaker--had already published two books, Cry for the Lions and Where the Lion Walked, before he had the privilege of working with George Adamson of Born Free fame, an experience which he shares in The Lions' Legacy. After George was brutally murdered, Gareth carried on his work and successfully relocated three orphaned lion cubs which George had been working with and chronicles these experiences in Last of the Free and With My Soul Amongst Lions. These books were published internationally and gained Gareth world-wide recognition. He was also acclaimed for his contribution to the struggle to save the Tuli elephants and his continual fight against canned lion hunting in southern Africa, which he documents in Dying to Be Free. In 1999 Gareth was honored as a finalist in the Audi Terra Nova Environmental Awards. Gareth Patterson has not only shared his experiences through his prose, but has had two documentaries produced about him: "Shadows of Gold and Gray," "Born to Be Free," 'and was featured in a third, 'Brits Abroad.' which was screened on the BBC.

Gareth is making himself available to share his struggles and joy in saving Africa's precious wildlife. Gareth's presentation, which covers the main topics of his books, an in-depth description of his life as a human member of a lion pride, as well as more recent subjects such ...as The Canned Lion Scandal and his current project, The Knysna Elephants, consists of a forty-five to sixty minute slide presentation followed by a fifteen minute question and answer period. An inspiring and moving experience, at the heart of Gareth's presentation is a message: Never give up in your quest to make a difference or to achieve your goals in life.
